Exterior Restoration of Case University - Guilford House
Built in 1892, The Guilford House is home to the departments of English, Modern Languages and Literature, and Women's Studies at CaseUniversity. The University has a goal of conservation, renovation and adaptive use of its historic properties and regularly invests in maintaining older structures. M-A Building & Maintenance Co. was selected by CaseUniversity to provide a complete facade restoration to the Guilford House. Years of weathering have damaged the ornamental exterior wood work, brick masonry and sandstone foundation walls and water table.
Historic Stucco Festoon & Swag
The exterior restoration includes the careful removal of the deteriorated paint. The most dramatic restoration is the repair to the festoon and swags. Orignally cast into the stucco panels on the bay windows, these ornate elements are showings signs of dry rot. After careful analysis, a plan was developed to craft these elements using new and "old" materials bring them back to “like new” condition.
